Are you looking for an inexpensive way to advertise? AdWords
may be the way to go. This service, provided by Google, allows
you to create your own ads, choose keywords to help match your
ads to your audience, and control the cost of your advertising.
You will only pay when someone clicks on your ad, hence the
name, pay-per-click.


The concept is simple. You create your own ad, which is displayed
along the regular research results...your ad appears when someone
uses the keywords you have chosen to associate with your ad. You
do not pay for the display, or impression of your ad, but rather, you
will pay each time someone clicks on your ad. At that time that
individual will actually be redirected to your site - targeted traffic!


Since you determine the limit of your advertising budget, AdWords
can be very inexpensive. Initially you are charged $5 for the sign up
and then you can advertise for as little as $1.50 monthly since your
daily budget can be set as low as $.05 per day.


Keep in mind that your AdWords strategy should mirror your overall
marketing strategy. What I mean is, you need an ad that will pull
visitors in to your website. In order to do this you will need to put
yourself in someone else's shoes. Try to imagine what other people will
enter when searching for your topic on the internet. Remember that
most people are actually looking for a FREE solution to a problem.

Ask yourself if you focus on the problem or the solution as you put
together your ad. When staying within the values of the Law of
Attraction, it is always best to focus on the positive, which would be
the solution. If you find that you are problem focused when setting up
your ad, then set out to
immediately change your habits and thought
patterns to be more solution-focused. Change your habits and thought
patterns to be more positive and solution-focused. The more you know
about the person doing the search, the better off you will be. In other
words, the better you will be able to meet their needs,
which means you will be able to sell your product or service!


Let's begin at the beginning, because according to Plato:
"The beginning is the most important part of the work."
When you set up your ad you have three choices as to which area to
display it:


Google Search
Google Search Network
Google Content Network

Google Search and Google Search Network usually deliver relevant
searchers, but Google has already selected their Content Network by
default for you on their ad set-up page. It is suggested that you
de-select that option in order to improve your click rate, which can
also give you better ad positioning.


Google ads should be designed with care. Be sure to follow all of
Google's rules and regulations. Many people won't actually be
interested in spending money at your site but will click on your ad
anyway - thus costing you money. Google's suggested cost per click
is higher than necessary. I suggest that you initially set your daily
budget lower than you plan on spending until you see how your ad
is going to work out for you.


Let's talk about specifics related to ads.

1) Low Impression And Low CTR (Click Through Rate)
This can happen when you are just initiating your campaign. You
may need to do more research about the adwords program itself or
you may be using keywords that people are not using in their searches.
Or perhaps your budget is so low that Google does not want you to
exceed it so your ad is rarely presented.


2) High Impression But Low CTR
In this case, your ad is being shown often but there are few click
throughs. This could be due to low cost per click, which places your
ad in a low position, or it could also be that your ad is not well written.


3) High Impression, High CTR Generated By High CPC
The answer to this situation is extensive keyword research, and to know
how much a visitor is worth to you.


4) High Impression And High CTR With Low CPC
This is every advertiser's dream and it could only be an optimist's reality
according to Harold Wilkin!

Keywords should be carefully chosen. One method of doing that is by
checking out your competitors' keywords. You can use a tool at
http://www.googspy.com

Simply enter a domain name and you will be able to see what keywords are
being used. This can be very helpful.


Other tools that can be used include:

http://www.wordtracker.com

Keep in mind that the keyword tools will only give you a fraction of the
words that are used by the millions of people that use the internet. You also
need to brainstorm, use the Thesaurus and Dictionary to check for alternative
words and synonyms, use lateral terms and words, etc.


In the end, you simply have to run your ads, test them, test them, test them,
and continue testing them! Eventually you will find the ads that work, although
it is possible that some will work for awhile, then as time goes by, will need to
be changed again in order to be effective. Although positive thinking on it's own
will not solve all of your problems with your ads, it can certainly go a long way
to keeping you motivated while testing and testing again! In the words of
Colin Powell: "There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation,
hard work, and learning from failure."
