Autoresponders

In putting together this issue I found so many wonderful quotes that I simply couldn't decide which ones to include. As you know, I generally stick with including two or three. But, I thought that if they inspired you as much as they do me, it would be very appropriate to begin this issue with several. So here we go! If that is one of your problems then you are probably on your way to building a database of clients and/or prospects. That means you are on your way to great success! Taking the time to write individual responses to everyone that asks a question, or signs up for your newsletter, etc. can be very time consuming. And in this modern age everyone wants a response now, not when you have time to check your email and eventually get around to theirs. In fact, as your business grows, this task will increase until eventually you could be spending countless hours doing nothing but writing and answering emails. Fortunately there is a simple solution, autoresponders. These tools are probably the most important asset you will acquire. They will make your life less chaotic. Most of your business can be automated using autoresponders. That will free up your time so you can develop new streams of revenue.       Autoresponders -Definition and uses What is an autoresponder? It is a software program that can send out any message that you have previously set up for it to send. Let's say that you want to send a message by your autoresponder anytime that someone sends an email to your customer service area just to let that person know that the message was received and it will be answered as soon as possible, or within 24 hours, or maybe you will say messages are responded to Monday through Friday during particular hours. The choice is yours! In this manner "you" can be online 24/7! I'm sure you're familiar with the type of messages I am referring to. You will find there are many basic uses for an autoresponder, as well as some that are rather unique. Let's discuss a few. First, they can be used at your technical or customer support email address as previously mentioned. You could set up information to be mailed to prospective clients. This would include things like a price list or Frequently Asked Questions. Basically, covering any information that will not be changing frequently with your autoresponder can save you time, money and effort. If you decide that you want to create an e-course your autoresponder is an ideal way to distribute it. Surveys can be sent by your autoresponder, providing you with valuable information and helping you to build rapport with your clients. Similar to the e-courses, reports and e-zines can be distributed via autoresponders. You can index the information that you have available by autoresponder and enable your clients to retrieve the information that they are interested in. Okay, now let's talk about a few uses that are not commonly thought of. Do you have trouble remembering things? I'm talking about things like dates, whether it's a birthday, anniversary, or even that dreaded time to pay the bills, ughh! You can set up a message to yourself for reminders of all those times. That in itself can justify the cost of the autoresponder for many of us! Here's another unique use. Have you ever gone to a site that had so much information you needed that you were totally absorbed for a time, saved everything, downloaded and/or printed out information?  I know I have. Then, after all that you found that you lost your motivation, or that you simply were so busy that you forgot to follow through with reading that great information. Maybe you decide that the ebook, although it undoubtedly would benefit you to read, is simply too much to handle right now. Here's a solution. When you find a gold mine of information like that, continue downloading, saving and printing, but the twist is that you map out a doable plan for you to read everything. Then plug that into your autoresponder and send it to yourself at your designated times!   How cool is that? Isn't there a saying about eating an elephant one bite at a time? That's what you'll need to do. Just determine how long you want to give yourself to complete each segment of devouring that content! What To Say & More Now you may be wondering exactly what to say in those "canned" messages that you are going to send out. I encourage you to examine the ones that you receive in your mailbox. If you're like me, you get a lot that you don't even open. Am I right? Okay, so what can help with that? Research has shown that putting the recipient's name in the subject line greatly increases the chances of the email being opened. That's a start, but you can take it even further. You can personalize the message throughout the content if you so desire. Many businesses will do what I consider to be an overkill with their messages...either they are too long or there are too many. Again, I suggest that you research what other online marketers are doing, decide what you like and, perhaps more importantly, what you don't like. Then model yours after what you consider to be the best. The purpose behind the message will guide you in developing its content. Your signature line is very important in any message that you send.  Your signature should be between four and six lines of text, keeping the characters of each line to no more than 65. Include your name, your company name, your email address, phone number and a fax number if you have one. You can always end with a short message/subtle sales pitch about your company. It's very important that you include a "Welcome Email Message' as well as a "Thank You" which will state that you will only send emails to persons that have given their permission and how this person can unsubscribe if they choose to do so. You may be wondering what the cost of such an amazing tool is.  Autoresponders can be very expensive, or you can even find free versions. I suggest that you shop around. I personally use AWeber, and I am delighted with it. However, it is the only one that I have first-hand knowledge of...I am sure there are others that are very comparable. Like I said, I would encourage you to shop around, compare prices and features. Don't forget to ask about the support services offered by the provider. It can be very frustrating to have to "wait until Monday" to finish what you're working on Friday night. And we all know that frustration is a negative feeling that we would rather live without!
